Recycling end-of-life tires (ELTs) with REVALUO

Recycling end-of-life tires(ELTs) with REVALUO is completely clean. This non-burn waste-to-energy system is low-carbon and produces less than 4g/h per tonne of waste. Besides that, the plants recycling old tires obtain the most profit. Indeed, we can recycle 100% of the material in a tire. The steel, the fiber, and the rubber serve multiple purposes. Hence, we will discuss in the following lines the advantages, methods, and products that result from recycling old tires with REVALUO.

What are the advantages of recycling end-of-life tires(ELTs) with REVALUO?

  • Recycles a non-biodegradable product.
  • Obtains profit from waste material.
  • Produces near-zero-emissions (<4 g/h per tonne).
  • Promotes energy-saving and prevents depletion of non-renewable resources.
  • In brief, it contributes to a circular economy.
  • The return on investment is quick and 100% clean.

How does REVALUO recycle end-of-life tires (ELTs)?

Material recovery from old tires: scrap metal and reclaimed fiber

Material recovery is the first step in all of our plants. During material recovery, the facility receives, separates, and prepares recyclable materials. This sorting process can be automized, manual or mixed. In the case of metal, they use electromagnets in order to separate steel from waste.

That is how REVALUO recovers steel and fiber from the tire. Scrap steel and reclaimed fiber are highly valued materials for cement companies and the building sector.

Pelletization of rubber from old tires

After sorting and material recovery, we can process the rubber. Most of the rubber from end-of-life tires (ELTs) is made from petroleum byproducts. In addition, it is specially hardened to bear adverse conditions. They are particularly resilient to changes in temperature, abrasion, and traction. As a result, tires are very difficult to decompose. Besides that, it has a high calorific value. Thus, once recycled it is highly valued as a fuel for cement companies and vessels.

In order to fit the rubber in our machines, it must undergo pelletization. During pelletization, we use a drier to remove moisture and compress rubber. Thanks to this process, our machines achieve greater efficiency and can take larger volumes of waste.

Energy recovery from old tires

Our energy recovery system uses THERMOLYSIS. THERMOLYSIS is a thermal treatment for waste. It is a non-burn technology. Thanks to that, our waste-to-energy system produces significantly fewer CO2 emissions than other methods. In addition, our plants achieve greater performance.

During the THERMOLYSIS process, pellets experience pressure and temperatures between 650°C y 1200°C in the absence of oxygen. As a result, the molecular bonding of the material breaks and bonds again under new shapes and products: gas, liquid and solid. Therefore, we can use the products obtained in several ways.

What alternative products can we obtain from recycling end-of-life tires(ELTs) with REVALUO?

Heat and electric power from recycling end-of-life tires (ELTs)

The heating of pellets produces steam. We can produce electric power from it using a steam boiler. It produces between 1 y 1,2 MWh per tonne of waste. Therefore, the uses of this energy involve supplying the THERMOLYSIS plant itself, the drier machine, and households.

Bunker oil from  recycling end-of-life tires (ELTs)

As mentioned, they make rubber from ties mostly from petrochemical byproducts. It also contains other chemicals and mineral oils. For example, sulfur, zinc oxide, and carbon black. Therefore, we can obtain fuel from the decomposition of old tires. More concretely, we produce low-sulfur bunker oil.

In fact, the bunker oil we produce complies with the IMO 0.5 sulfur cap. Thus, producing bunker oil with REVALUO is highly profitable. We obtain between 500 and 600 kg of oil from each tonne of rubber.

Charcoal from  recycling end-of-life tires (ELTs)

The solid material resulting from the THERMOLYSIS is charcoal. Charcoal is separated from the rest of the material using conveyor belts. Once collected, we can sell this charcoal to industries using it as a component, for example, the chemical industry.

In conclusion, recycling old tires is vital for a circular economy. Every time we dispose of end-of-life tires (ELTs) in a landfill we lose a profitable source of revenue. Policymakers, companies, and individuals should consider end-of-life tires a resource rather than a waste. In addition, using REVALUO‘s low-carbon technology makes disposal of end-of-life tires for energy recovery completely clean.
