Plastic waste exceeds 10 billion tonnes and is one of the biggest environmental threats.
Despite the efforts of many people and some companies, the consumption of plastics continues to increase every year. To reduce environmental difficulties, industry and households need to critically re-evaluate the consumption of single-use plastics.
Reducing consumption, increasing durability, recycling and energy recovery of used plastics are the recommended strategies to reduce plastic pollution.
When it comes to end-of-life plastics, we know that if they are deposited in a landfill, they take between 20 and 500 years to decompose, depending on the type of plastic. If instead of throwing them away, we take them to a waste treatment plant, we can recover a good amount of heat and energy.
And what about used tyres❓
Depending on the country, when a tyre reaches the end of its life, it is collected or delivered to a collection point. For example, garages, shops, and recycling facilities can collect tyres in exchange for a fee. Tyres can be classified according to their condition in the following categories:
▫️ Tyres in good condition: the ones that are still in good condition can be sold to tyre retail stores as used tyres.
▫️ Retread tyres: if the casing is in usable condition, the tyre can be retreaded. In such cases, the tread is replaced with a new one, and the tyre is put back on sale.
▫️ End-of-life tyres (ELTs): when they cannot be recovered, they are classified as end-of-life tyres (ELTs). They have to be sent to recycling facilities for energy recovery and recycling.
Used tyres are a major public health threat, as they are often burnt, releasing toxic substances.
With REVALUO we revaluate used and abandoned tyres by extracting the steel and fibre from them for further sale and transforming the rubber through our Thermolysis system into fuel bunker, carbon smoke and heat.
The plant is self-sufficient in energy with the synthetic gas obtained in the process.
Zero waste, near-zero pollution (4gr/ton).
