The throw-away culture is reaching its peak since the latest IPPC report issued a “last call” for humanity to take urgent measures against climate change in the following years. Some of these measures need to entail a shift in our production and consumption patterns towards a more sustainable model and a circular economy.
Why is it bad to throw away things that should be recycled?
Here are 5 main reasons to stop throwing away things:
- Plastic pollution. One of the greatest challenges nowadays is plastic pollution. Plastic items never fully disappear. They just get smaller and smaller and become part of the water we drink, the air we breathe, and the food we eat.
- Wildfires and environmental risks. Many of the products we use every day contain hazardous substances that are either toxic or flammable. Electric devices, cell phones, computers can cause serious wildfires and contaminate groundwaters and farmland.
- Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The decomposition of food waste and organic compounds produces methane gas. Methane gas is not only a very flammable gas but also a very powerful GHG.
- Land disposal. Landfilling requires a lot of space. We consume at a faster path than we recycle and some of the waste, for example, tires, take up a lot of space and are not biodegradable.
- Waste value recovery. It can be used as a material. Waste to energy systems (WtE systems) like REVALUO can transform waste into valuable products such as fuel, electric power, or soil improvers.
Let’s realize that “away” isn’t a place but an excuse. Be a part of the solution, make the decision!
Systems that treat, recover, recycle and transform waste into products with economic value, generating employment, zero pollution, and helping to clean up the world for all of us and our children.
Shall we talk?
